Statement No. 3
Urgent Call for an Immediate Halt to Executions and Emergency International Action

Democracy Alliance FOR IRAN expresses its deep concern over the escalating wave of executions in Iran, particularly the execution of protesters and political detainees. We strongly condemn these actions as a blatant and systematic violation of fundamental human rights.

While Iran’s civil society, despite widespread repression, severe security restrictions, and an intensely militarized environment, has sought to raise its voice against this inhumane trend through campaigns such as “No to Executions,” we are witnessing parts of the ruling establishment not only ignoring these demands, but actively legitimizing the continuation of this cycle of violence through messages of support and praise directed toward judicial and security institutions.

This situation reveals a profound divide between the ruling establishment and the people. In any democratic system, such grave human rights violations would lead to accountability, acceptance of responsibility, and even resignations by officials. In Iran, however, instead of accountability, we are witnessing praise for repression and executions. This behavior demonstrates that the current structure is not representative of the people, but stands in direct opposition to the will and demands of the Iranian nation.

At the same time, wartime conditions, divisions within the opposition, and mounting security pressures have severely restricted the operational space of civil society and deprived citizens of the ability to organize peaceful protests against executions. Under such circumstances, the responsibility of the international community, human rights organizations, and the United Nations has become more vital and decisive than ever.

Immediate Actions Requested

  • The convening of emergency, regular, and continuous sessions at the United Nations to address the situation of executions in Iran, not symbolically or annually, but on a weekly and monthly basis until this process is completely halted.

  • Moving beyond statements of mere concern toward establishing practical and effective mechanisms to pressure the Iranian authorities into immediately stopping executions.

  • Holding directly and indirectly responsible officials accountable through international human rights mechanisms, and systematically documenting these cases for future prosecution.

  • Providing immediate and active support to Iran’s civil society, which is operating under extreme pressure and whose activists are, in many cases, imprisoned.

  • Making the immediate cessation of executions and the unconditional release of political prisoners a precondition for any negotiation or agreement with the Islamic Republic.

If military actions or international pressure are justified under the claim of supporting the Iranian people, then such support must prioritize measurable and practical outcomes. Halting executions and freeing political prisoners constitute the minimum and most immediate criteria for assessing the sincerity of these claims and must be treated as core conditions in any engagement or agreement with the regime.

We call upon all human rights organizations, international institutions, human rights defenders, media outlets, and conscientious people around the world:

Do not cease sustained efforts and pressure until an effective mechanism is established to stop executions in Iran.
Today, Iran’s civic and grassroots forces are either imprisoned or operating under the harshest restrictions. Under these circumstances, the international community bears a historic responsibility to ensure that the cycle of executions and repression does not continue in silence and indifference.

Waiting for scattered statements and annual meetings while executions continue uninterrupted is wholly inadequate in addressing the urgency of this crisis.

Every hour of delay may mean the loss of another human life.

Democracy Alliance FOR IRAN once again emphasizes:

“The immediate halt to executions is not a political demand, it is an urgent human necessity.”
